Concrete driveway building in Galt CA - a driveway built on packed ground
Cracked, sinking or pooling driveway? We dig out, pack the base and pour a slab sloped away from your house.

What goes into a new concrete driveway in Galt?
Concrete driveway building in Galt means pouring a new slab on the ground, built to carry your cars. A driveway lasts when the ground under it is even and packed hard and the slab is thick enough. It also needs control joints, planned grooves that steer the cracking, and enough time to cure.
If your driveway is cracked, sinking along the edges or holding water by the garage, the trouble usually started under the slab, so that's where I look first. The price moves with the size of the driveway, whether an old one has to come out, how thick it needs to be for what you park on it, how much digging the base needs and the finish you pick. The schedule turns on any permit the job needs, the weather on pour day and the cure before you can drive on it. We're based in Galt and work in Galt and the cities around it in Sacramento and San Joaquin counties, both inside city limits and out in the county. When a job needs a permit, we check which office your address falls under and handle the paperwork. Your estimate puts all of that in writing for your driveway, so you can see what goes into the job.

Driveways, patios and stamped concrete
How we handle concrete driveway building
I start by asking what you'll park on the driveway, because a work truck or RV changes how we plan the slab. Then we dig out the soft soil and pack the subgrade, the ground the slab sits on. A base that's only raked level settles with the dirt and takes the concrete down with it. We set the forms, the boards that shape the edges, with the slope away from the house built in, so rain runs off instead of back toward your garage and doors. We pour, give the top a broom finish, a light texture that gives tires and shoes some grip, and lay out the control joints so any cracks fall where we want them. If the budget gets tight, the base is the last place I'd cut. You won't see it on day one, and you can upgrade a finish later, but fixing a bad base means tearing out the slab.
A lot of driveway calls turn into more work around the house. If the backyard needs a slab too, concrete patio construction takes the same base work, and it often makes sense to plan both at once. If you want the driveway or front walk to look like stone or brick, our stamped concrete services press a pattern and color into the surface while it's still wet.
Why Galt homeowners call Galt Concrete for a new driveway
The owner estimates and pours
I started Galt Concrete in 2023, and I still come out to look at the ground, write the estimate and work the job alongside our crew. The person who saw your soil and heard about your RV is the one standing there when the base goes in.
Licensed and insured for concrete
We're licensed and insured. In California, concrete contractors don't get the workers' comp exemption that some contractors without employees have, so it's fair to ask anyone you're thinking of hiring about that coverage, us included.
Galt street permits lined up
In Galt, any building or digging in the sidewalk and street area needs an encroachment permit from the city's Engineering Division, and a driveway that reaches the street often touches that area. We line that up before we dig, so work at the curb doesn't hold up the job once the crew is on site.
On a driveway, the ground underneath decides how it holds up, so that's what I want to see first. Use our contact form to tell us the rough size, what you'll park on it and whether it reaches the street, or call (209) 865-3675.
Get a free written estimate for your new driveway
Send the form and we'll get back to you within one business day to set a time. I'll come out, look at the ground and write up a free estimate, with no obligation to book.

What happens after you call about a driveway in Galt?
Call or send the form
Tell us the rough size, what you'll park on it and whether the driveway runs to the street. We'll find a time for me to come out.
I look at the ground
I walk the site, check where the water runs and ask how you'll use the driveway. You get a written estimate that shows removal, base work, thickness and finish, so you know where the money goes before you decide.
Permits, then the pour
If you go ahead, we sort out any permit with the right office first. Then we prep the base, set the forms, pour and finish.
Learn how to care for it
Before we leave, I walk you through curing, the stretch while the concrete gains strength, and how to care for the slab after that. You'll need somewhere else to park while it cures.
Concrete driveway questions from Galt
What does a concrete driveway cost near Galt?
An unreinforced concrete driveway in the Sacramento area usually costs about $7 to $13 per square foot, not counting removal of an old driveway. Where yours falls in that range depends on how thick it needs to be, how much base work the ground takes and the finish. Your written estimate shows your number.
How long does a new concrete driveway take to cure before I can park on it?
With a normal mix, cars usually stay off a new driveway for about 7 days, and heavier trucks and RVs wait closer to 28 days. Plan other parking for that first week, and longer if you have an RV or work truck. I'll confirm the timing for your slab before we leave.
Is concrete better than asphalt for a driveway?
For a driveway you want to last, I'd pick concrete, because it holds its shape in heat and routinely lasts decades with joint upkeep and an occasional seal. Asphalt costs less and you can drive on it in a day or two, but it softens in summer heat, needs seal coating now and then and wears out faster. Concrete's trade-off is a higher price up front and a few days of curing.
Can I widen my driveway in Galt?
Yes, Galt Public Works says a driveway less than ten feet wide may be widened, as long as the drive approach, where it meets the street, is widened at the same time under an encroachment permit. The city also limits how much of a lot can be paved and won't let you widen into the setback to add a parking space. If the work moves more than fifty cubic yards of material or digs or fills deeper than two feet, the city requires a grading permit too.
How thick should a concrete driveway be for a truck or RV?
Home driveways are commonly 4 inches thick for passenger cars on sound ground and 5 to 6 inches for heavier loads or poor soil. Bring up the truck or RV at the estimate, and I'll settle the thickness once I've seen your ground.
What causes a concrete driveway to crack?
Concrete cracks as it shrinks and settles, and the cracks you notice usually come from a base that settled unevenly or from joints that were cut late or skipped. Hot weather can also cause problems from delivery through curing that weaken the finished slab. A new driveway can still crack, but good prep keeps those cracks in the joints instead of across the middle.
Work that goes with a concrete driveway
Concrete patio construction
A backyard patio rests on the same packed base and sloped forms as a driveway, so it's worth planning both when we're already out at your house.
Stamped concrete services
If plain gray isn't what you want out front, a stamped pattern and color give the slab the look of stone or brick without changing what's underneath.
